Houston

On Wednesday May 1, 2019 we finally arrived in Houston, and headed to Joyce and Bill's for a short visit, before going together to lunch at Gringo's, a Tex-Mex restaurant in Spring. From there we headed to our "Houston home away from home", the Comfort Suites at Hwy. 249 and Louetta. After settling in, we were ready to "face the music", and attend a weekly Weight Watchers meeting. YIPES - I was up 8 pounds, in just two weeks. Somehow, we'll have to figure out how to manage eating and exercising habits while on the road, visiting friends and family and having fun together!

On Thursday May 2, we went to James Coney Island for lunch, a must-stop for anyone raised in Houston, and then made a customary stop (at least for me!) at Barnes and Noble, for a new book. We then went for a walk in the Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve, a park recommended by Joyce. Nice!

On Friday, May 3, we met my cousin Betsy at Guadalajara Hacienda, a Mexican restaurant just off the Katy freeway (known by outsiders as Interstate 10). We then stopped at Costco for gas on our way back to the hotel, and intended to shop. However,  the skies were very dark, and my "Dark Skies" app alerted me to "severe weather warnings" for Houston, so we high-tailed it home. Lucky thing we did! Later we found out that La Grange had a tornado, and Hwy. 290 was flooded - glad we missed it!!
